Q1. How quickly will I get my order? |
| A. If you order standard stock sizes, we will ship the sails to you as soon as we receive payment. If we do not have the sizes you want in stock, you may have a short wait of 1-2 weeks. |
Q2. What sort of material is freeform made from? |
| A. freeform is made from a stretchable Lycra-based fabric with each sail edged in trnaslucent silicone to keep it smooth and taut once installed. Freeform is low maintenance and easy to work with. Its clean elegant lines look very effective once it is in place. |
Q3. Can I see freeform installed somewhere before I buy? |
| A. freeform is still new to market so we don’t have showrooms in place. This is something we will aim for in the future. In the meantime, if viewing a sail is important to you, please ask about commercial jobs where freeform has been used as there may be a commercial/public building that you can visit. |
Q4. Can the sails be cleaned and with what? |
| A. Because the material is inherently flame retardent it can be washed as many times as you like in your washing machine. Just put it through on a cool wash and hang it up to dry. Don't iron it though! |
Q5. Do I need to have Freeform professionally fitted? |
| A. No. Freeform comes with all the required fittings and detailed instructions to allow you to do it yourself. |
Q6. Can I use Freeform outside? |
| A. Freeform is not designed for outdoor use. It is not waterproof in any way and will not stand up well to the wind. That said there is nothing to stop you taking it outside on a nice sunny day and string it up for a bit of extra shade. |
Q7. How are the sails fixed? |
| A. The sails are fixed using simple eye plates and screws. A full set of installation instructions can be downloaded when you have registered with the site and logged in. |
Q8. Is the fabric flame retardant? |
| A. The fabric is inherently flame retardant. Put simply that means if you hold a match up to it the flame will burn through the fabric but it won't actually catch light itself. |
Q9. Will you install freeform for me? |
| A. Installation of freeform is fairly basic and doesn’t require a professional. However, if you are worried about it and feel assistance is required, we are creating a UK-wide list of companies/individuals willing and able to do installation. Please ask if we have someone in your area. |
Q10. How much glare and heat will freeform reduce? |
| A. freeform reduces heat by reflecting a high percentage of sunlight back out. The level of heat reduction is dependent on the layout of the sails. With regards to glare, rather than blocking sunlight, freeform diffuses it so you get a softer, gentler light passing through. This is particularly useful on overcast days because light will continue to come through so the sails won't make the room seem dark and gloomy. If it’s helpful, we can work with you to design a layout that will combat any specific glare issues you have. |
Q11. How do I buy freeform? |
| A. You can get freeform direct from us. Simply call us or email us to place an order. We will then invoice you and you can pay either by cheque or by bank transfer (details will be on the quotation). Once the payment has been made, we will send the sail(s) and fittings to you on next day delivery via courier. As things move forward, we also expect freeform to become increasingly available through third party retailers. Ask us about this if you want to know more. |
Q12. Is freeform eco-friendly? |
| A. If environmental considerations are important to you, please ask about our eco-freeform sails. These are made from fabric that is 90% recycled. They look, work and can be used in exactly the same way as our standard fabric sails. |
Q13. Is freeform available in different colours? |
| A. We have a range of 32 different colours. You can see the colour options on the ‘technical design guide’, which can be downloaded. Because we order in colour fabric as it is required, there is a surcharge of 10% (to a minimum charge of £80) for coloured sails. freeform sails can also be printed with an image or text so if you want a sail personalised and made entirely unique – ask us about this option. |
Q14. How do I determine which sail(s) I need? |
| A. Ask us for some ideas. We can supply sample layouts showing freeform in various conservatory styles. We can also create a scheme for you. We’ll require photographs and dimensions to do this but we can guide you on all of this. Please call us or email us. |
Q15. Can I have a custom freeform sail made? |
| A. Absolutely. Get in touch with us to discuss your requirements. |

Q17. What size do the sails stretch to? |
| A. The sails will stretch by up to 30% in either direction. Please see our size chart for more details [Click Here!] |
Q18. How do the sails work? |
A. The sails are made from a stretchy lycra based fabric. This means we can offer a range of standard sizes that can be stretched to fit the requirements of most modern conservatories. This reduces the need for custom sails and the costs that this involves.
Each corner of the sail is secured using a swivel hook and a small eye plate that is screwed into the frame. Once your fittings are in place the sails are simply stretched in by hand. Because the sails are under tension it means they won't sag and in most applications will be smooth and wrinkle free. |
| Q19. How do you actually tension the sails? |
| A. The sails are effectively self tensioning. The minimum sizes we show allow for a 15% stretch in the fabric. This is sufficient to pull all the wrinkles our and form a nice smooth shape. It is easy to apply up to 30% stretch in the fabric by hand. |
